having cast off all (objects), assimilate yourself to that which remains. In order to realize the self, renounce everything.
– Amrita-bindu Upanishadīeing first in a state of changelessness and then thoroughly forgetting (even) that state owing to the cognition of the (true) nature of Brahman (infinite consciousness) – this is called samadhi. that ought to be constantly churned out by the churning rod of the mind.
Like the butter hidden in milk, the pure consciousness resides in every being. o ribhu, having given up all thoughts, you should rest content (in your soul) ever.” – Varaha Upanishad he should abandon all the thoughts relating to externals and so also with references to internals. Man is bound by ‘mine’, but he is released by ‘not mine’. – Varaha Upanishadīondage is the imagination prompted by the desire for the eight powers. Whether the body perishes now or lasts the age of moon and stars, what matters it to me having consciousness alone as my body? what matters it to the sky in the pot, whether it (the pot) is destroyed now or exists for a long time. That which is consciousness alone which is all-pervading, which is eternal, which is all-full, which is of the form of bliss and which is indestructible, is the only true brahman (infinite consciousness). He who perceives all beings in the self alone, and the self in all beings, does not entertain any hatred on account of that perception. Liberated from the grip of egoism, like the moon (after the eclipse), full, ever blissful, self-luminous, one attains one’s essence. – Katha Upanishadįools, dwelling in darkness, but wise in their own conceit and puffed up with vain scholarship, wander about, being afflicted by many ills, like blind men led by the blind. Knowing that great and all-pervading self by which one sees (the objects) both in the sleep and the waking states, the intelligent man grieves no more. To the seer, all things have verily become the Self: what delusion, what sorrow, can there be for him who beholds that oneness? – Isha Upanishadĭissolves the self in the supreme self as the pot-space is dissolved in infinite space then, as the infinite be silent forever, o sage! – Adhyatma Upanishad This Atman, resplendent and pure, whom the sinless sannyasins behold residing within the body, is attained by the unceasing practice of truthfulness, austerity, right knowledge, and continence.
An undistracted mind free#
one who is free from desire sees the glory of the self through the tranquillity of the mind and senses and becomes absolved from grief. The self that is subtler than the subtle and greater than the great is seated in the heart of every creature. the mind that is attached to sense-objects leads to bondage, while dissociated from sense-objects it tends to lead to liberation. It is indeed the mind that is the cause of men’s bondage and liberation. Goff, Bob The opposite of hope isn’t despair, it’s distraction. The wise man beholds all beings in the self and the self in allīeings for that reason, he does not hate anyone. You can beat distraction and despair, but the hope-filled life lived with eyes fixed on Jesus will never happen by accident. Daily fixing our eyes involves purposeful choices, remembering that what we gaze upon, read, listen to and click on is all designed to grab you and hold you. “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith,” encourages Hebrews 12:2. 2 Peter 1:3 tells us, “God has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him.” Without this renewal, it’s inevitable: our minds will always be on what the Bible calls “flesh and death.” But it also says that “The mind set on the Spirit is life and peace (Romans 8:6). God’s Word speaks to us in both practical and spiritual ways.
I need the illumination of the Holy Spirit as I interact with Scripture, as only this has the power to refresh, restore and refocus my mind, will and emotions. In short, he wants to get your eyes and your mind off of Jesus.Įvery day, I need to be brought back. If you’re a follower of Jesus Christ, you have an enemy, and the shots that he takes at you are always efforts to get you to focus on all that is wrong and on your insufficiency. If I’m distracted by what’s going on in the world, in my country, in my home and in my very own mind, it’s a short trip to despair. “The opposite of hope isn’t despair, it’s distraction,” tweeted Bob Goff, and he is so right. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death.
